An important step towards a socio-ecological market economy within planetary boundaries is circular economy. This involves the idea of using raw materials in cycles. The Cradle to Cradle concept provides concrete approaches to this, for example by differentiating between the technosphere and the biosphere.
Circular economy breaks with linear thinking – the idea that products simply become waste in the end. Instead, they remain valuable: as raw materials for new products. When cycles are considered right from the design stage, this is a win-win situation for companies, the environment and society.
